Inventory & Equipment
A complete guide to managing the BAB Equipment Registry, cataloging shared academic laboratory infrastructure, and maintaining the inter-university equipment directory.
The Inventory system maps specialized research hardware (such as 3D motion capture cameras, force plates, high-speed treadmills, EMG sensors, and biomechanical simulation setups) across Belgian universities to foster collaborative scientific studies and resource sharing.
1. Accessing Inventory Items in the Admin Menu
To view existing equipment listings or add newly acquired lab systems, navigate to Inventory Items in the left WordPress admin sidebar.
From this overview screen, administrators and lab managers can review all published setups, filter by institution or laboratory center, and manage technical data sheets.
2. Adding a New Equipment Listing
To register a new piece of equipment, click the Add New button within the Inventory Items section:
Standard Equipment Fields
- Equipment Name (Title): Enter the specific model or system name (e.g.
Vicon Vero 3D Optical Motion Capture System,Bertec Split-Belt Instrumented Treadmill). - Centrum / Location: Assign the host university and laboratory center (e.g. UGent – BioMMedA, KU Leuven – Rehabilitation Sciences, ULiège – LAM / BioMat, VUB – MFYS).
- Equipment Category: Categorize the device based on measurement modality (Kinematics, Kinetics, Electromyography, Material Testing, 3D Scanning & Simulation).
- Technical Specifications: Detail sampling rates, load capacities, capture volumes, and software compatibility in the main description area.
- Featured Image: Upload a high-resolution photograph of the device or the active laboratory testing environment.
- Contact Person / Lab Manager: Designate the responsible researcher or lab manager to receive inquiries for collaborative testing sessions.
3. Frontend Equipment Search Integration
Published inventory items automatically populate the interactive Equipment Search component on the About Us page:
- Faceted Filtering: Researchers across Belgium can filter devices by university, measurement domain, and testing capabilities.
- Collaborative Requests: Visitors can view contact information and submit requests for shared testing sessions directly through the platform.
Keeping equipment entries, location details, and contact emails up to date ensures seamless cross-institutional research projects and grant applications across the Belgian biomechanics ecosystem.
